What started in New York in the 80's had such an impact that the ripples were felt all around the world club scene, and all the way to the little town of Cannes, where a cult of followers emerged in the mid 90's.
With Lenny Dee's blessing, Mozart, a local public figure, took on the mission to bring that scene home.
From there, the party has escalated to being one of the pillars of the French Riviera nightlife, with events taking place during the Cannes Film Festival, the NRJ Music Awards, and throughout the entire summer season.
The role I held for many years, Physionomiste, does not have an absolute translation in the English language. Nonetheless, its importance & responsibilities are widely recognized within the European club culture.
I like to think working the door goes far beyond having a good memory for faces. In fact, it is not so much the memory of faces which I was appreciated for, more so my inherent talent to feel people, and make an extremely rapid assessment as to whether or not this person would be a good fit for that particular soirée. This allowed LIMELIGHT to grow organically and harmoniously, while keeping our followers excited about having the opportunity to join in for one more night of fun.
Shaping the party's atmosphere right from the start was key to our success. My door policy was simple: integrity and consistency in being open to welcome anyone and everyone with desirable vibes, while ensuring LIMELIGHT aficionados kept on sharing the love... which I made sure of by screening the 2500+ people already in line before gates opened at midnight.
Guests that spinned at the party include: Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Ricardo Villalobos, Solomun, Richie Hawtin, Sven Väth, Art Department, Seth Troxler, Maya Jane Coles, and so many more...
Thanks to an incredible team effort over the years, the LIMELIGHT parties, hosted most frequently at GOTHA (previously Palais Club), went from being low-key Sunday events, to Friday & Saturday main events.
